BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

MFA Fiber and Mixed Media Art, John F. Kennedy University, Orinda, CA

D.R. Wagner is an artist, poet and musician. He has published over twenty-one books of poetry and a number of musical compositions. He founded, and directed for six years, the Open Ring Galleries, a non-profit corporation for the arts. An interest in the variety and the challenge of fiber work led to his current focus of miniature tapestries, which he has been producing for over fifteen years. Numerous reviews and articles have been Written about him and his art. His work has been included in several catalogues. Amongst his honors, he has received the Fibers West Award, as well as the award for "Traditional Technique" at the International Textile Competition, Kyoto '87, Kyoto, Japan. He is presently a Lecturer in Design at the University of California at Davis, Davis, CA., as well as artist-in-residence for the California Arts Council at the David Lubin School in Sacramento, CA.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been making needle made miniature tapestries for thirty years. My work is exhibited internationally, and is included in many museum collections. As I am a poet and musician, my work tends to be both narrative and lyrical. It often contains text.

COMMENTS ON THE FIBER FIELD
Nothing is closer to the body than Fiber. My body of work is made of fiber. The Fiber field is the true field connecting everything. Spinning just like the world. woven just as lives are. A real place.
