Bay Area GraduatesII -- MFA 2000!

Our summer show continues with work from recent graduates of UC Davis and CCAC. The work in this group truly demonstrates the broad definition of Fiber Art prevalent today.

Annie Farley (UC Davis) embraces the tactile and resilient qualities of fiber in her felted three-dimensional structures. She taps into the historical use of felt while infusing it with organic sensibilities.

In Contrast to Farley's distinct use of textiles, Kathleen Clasen (CCAC) removes the cloth from her pieces. Clasen uses her strong passion and history for textiles as a starting point for mixed media assemblages which incorporate traditional fiber techniques.

Maya Kabat (UC Davis) explores the idea of beauty. Her work challenges traditional definitions of aesthetics through the use of twisted, distorted forms and materials.

Anna Conklin (CCAC) reveres the hands-on, intimate quality of making textiles. Her "art" occurs, however, in the act of giving these personal creations away. She explains, "I think of art as a gift-one I am grateful to have in my life and one I try to pass on to other people."

The exciting work we've shown this summer reflects not only on the students but also their professors, the programs and the high level of commitment to Fiber Art in the San Francisco Bay Area community.
